The New Copilot. From Answers to Action.
Microsoft’s Home, Code and Autopilot point towards a different relationship with AI. For businesses, the opportunity starts with preparing people to delegate, build and evaluate work in new ways.

The business opportunity. In 60 seconds.
Evaluate where AI can help produce a finished, reviewable result.
Train employees to brief, supervise and verify AI-supported work.
Give every workflow a clear owner, defined permissions and approval points.
Measure quality, time recovered and total cost before expanding adoption.
Three capabilities. A broader role for AI.
On September 25, 2026, Microsoft introduced a new Copilot experience built around Home, Code and Autopilot.
A place to work
Brings Chat and Cowork together, with Word, Excel and PowerPoint integrated into the experience.
A way to build
Turns natural-language descriptions into purpose-built apps, dashboards and workflows.
Ongoing assistance
A proactive, cloud-hosted agent designed to keep working towards assigned goals while you are away.
Availability: The announcement describes staged access through Frontier and private preview. It is not confirmation that every capability is available to every customer. Check eligibility before planning a deployment. Read the announcement ↓
Explore the experience. Then consider the work.
As you watch, consider your own business: which recurring task has a clear outcome, reliable inputs and a result someone can check? That is a useful starting point for a pilot.
Delegation needs a better brief.
Microsoft describes Autopilot as having its own identity, memory and workspace within the organisation’s tenant, supported by permissions and audit controls. Its example includes coordinating a supplier review process.

Our view is that delegating to an agent requires many of the same disciplines as delegating to a team: a clear objective, suitable information, an accountable owner and an agreed definition of completion.
Before asking AI to take responsibility for a task, define what a good result looks like.
For an initial pilot, a company could test preparation of a weekly project brief. Specify which sources to use, how to flag missing updates and who checks the draft before it is circulated. This is an illustrative workflow to validate, not a guaranteed product outcome.
More people can build. Someone must own the result.
Making small internal tools easier to create could help teams address everyday friction: tracking requests, organising handovers or preparing operational reports.
Our recommendation is to give each tool an owner from the start. Decide who validates its logic, manages access and maintains it when a business process changes. A promising prototype still needs review before it becomes part of a critical operation.
Build quickly. Validate deliberately. Scale what proves useful.
Train for the work. Measure the outcome.
Access to a capable platform does not automatically create a capable workforce. Employees need practice in explaining objectives, supplying context, identifying weak answers and deciding when human judgement is necessary.
A sales team, an operations team and an executive team need different exercises. Training should use realistic tasks from each role and make verification part of the process.
Microsoft also states that Cowork, Code and Autopilot use usage-based billing. This makes consumption part of the business case.
Time recovered
Count preparation, review and correction time alongside the time saved.
Quality delivered
Assess accuracy, completeness and whether the output is useful to its recipient.
Total cost
Include licences, consumption, implementation and ongoing support.
Repeatable adoption
Check whether the team can use the workflow consistently without expert intervention.
Better tools need prepared organisations.
We see this announcement as a reason to examine how work is organised: where time is lost, where information is fragmented and where a controlled AI workflow could help.
Tech Audit
Identify practical opportunities, dependencies and priorities.
AI Training
Develop the skills people need for their actual responsibilities.
Implementation
Build selected workflows with clear ownership and measurable goals.
The first step is choosing one valuable problem and preparing the people who will solve it with AI.
